There are pros and cons to transitioning from Smart Radio to Squeezebox. Also, if you transition to Squeezebox,
you will need to have an existing or create a new Squeezebox ID and in either case re-enter your button presets,
favorites and music service IDs.
Please note that Smart Radios transitioned to Squeezebox Radios will require Logitech Media Server version 7.7 or above, or connect to mysqueezebox.com
Reasons to transition to Squeezebox:
- You want to use and sync your device alongside other Squeezebox devices such as Touch, Boom, Classic or other Squeezebox Radios.
- You want to use the Logitech Media Server to play music from attached NAS storage devices or using 3rd party developer plug-ins.
The Smart Radio platform does not support NAS nor Squeezebox 3rd party developer plug-ins, whereas Squeezebox Radio does.
- You want to stream music files stored on your PC or Mac to your Radio but do not have a permanent Internet connection available.
In order to deliver a simplified user experience across local and online music content, UE Smart Radio relies on an available Internet connection.
Squeezebox allows a direct network connection between your computer and the Radio.

You may not want to update if:
- You love the simplicity of your UE Smart Radio. We have put a lot of emphasis on streamlining the user experience.
In particular, to access your MP3’s and iTunes music, you no longer need to switch between your local server
(Logitech Media Server) and the online server (mysqueezebox.com). This means your favorites and home menu items always remain consistent, unlike the behavior on Squeezebox.
- You have or plan to buy additional UE Smart Radios. While Smart Radios and Squeezebox can co-exist on the same home network, they can not sync nor share their favorites and music service IDs.
